Graduate assistantship opportunities are available for students in a variety of areas.
Statistics Laboratory Graduate Assistantships
Graduate students may apply for a position in the educational statistics computer lab. Statistics Lab GA’s maintain the computers in the laboratory, assist students with computer and statistics-related questions, and assist professors with course-related activities. National Office for Research, Measurement, and Evaluation Systems
The establishment of the National Office for Research, Measurement and Evaluation Systems (NORMES) addresses the immediate need for improved student assessment and evaluation practices in rural school systems. NORMES uses interactive technology to identify best educational practices and curriculum interventions contributing to increased student achievement. NORMES provides an improved system for early detection of those students at-risk academically and the specific information necessary for educators to respond. NORMES transcends geographical obstacles in bringing educational resources to academically distressed and isolated school systems.
Graduate students may apply for a variety of research and technology positions, including large-scale database development and maintenance; computer technology innovation; and research and writing positions. For more information, review the NORMES Web site at http://normes.uark.edu/ and contact Dr. Sean Mulvenon or Dr. Charles Stegman at (479) 575-5593.
Office of Research, Measurement, and Evaluation
The focus of the Office of Research, Measurement, & Evaluation (ORME) is to conduct program and project evaluation, conducting targeted research in the fields of education and social science, and continuing theoretical research in the fields of education, testing, and measurement. Since ORME’s inception, the graduate students and faculty have developed partnerships with local educational agencies, state departments of education, local community groups, and faculty of other programs at the University of Arkansas. Collaborative activities include program and project evaluation; database development, management, and analysis; and theoretical research in the fields of education and psychometrics.
For more information, graduate students can review the ORME Web site at http://normes.uark.edu/orme/index.html or contact Dr. Ronna Turner at rcturner@uark.edu.
